Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia has been selected to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and a Manning Award Star of the Week in addition to being named the Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week it was announced.
It’s the fourth time this fall that the Heisman Trophy candidate has received weekly recognition from both the Davey O’Brien and Manning Awards on the same day following a Commodore victory.
Pavia was also announced as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, the third occasion he’s been honored by the league this season as well.
Vandy fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for Pavia as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week until 9 a.m. CT Wednesday.
In helping lead the Dores to a 45-17 win over Kentucky Saturday, Pavia connected on 33-of-39 attempts for a school-record 484 yards and five touchdowns to go along with a team-high 48 yards and a score rushing. His 532 yards of total offense were the most by a Vandy player since at least 1996, and were the second-highest figure by an individual from a Power 4 program and third-most overall in a game this fall. With the performance, Pavia also became the first FBS quarterback to throw for at least 480 yards and five scores in a contest this season.
In addition to tying the school record for passing touchdowns in a game for the second time this season—he also threw for five scores in a Sept. 27 defeat of Utah State—the native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, also tied the second-highest completion total and posted the third-best completion percentage in a game in program history.
He guided an offense that set a Vandy game record with 539 passing yards and recorded more than 600 yards of total offense against an SEC foe for the first time since a Nov. 26, 2016, victory over Tennessee. Those efforts helped the Commodores win nine games in the regular season for the first time since the 1915 campaign while also going unbeaten at home for the first time since 1982.
Pavia and the No. 12/12 Dores will visit No. 18/18 Tennessee Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, with the matchup set to air on ESPN.
