(BCSNN) -- Ryan Silverfield, one of the nation’s winningest coaches over the past three seasons, has been named the 35th head football coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek announced the hire Saturday, citing Silverfield’s sustained success and program-building ability.
Silverfield compiled a 50–25 record in six seasons at Memphis, including back-to-back 10-win campaigns in 2023 and 2024. His teams earned bowl eligibility every year, extending the Tigers’ streak to 12 consecutive postseason appearances — the longest among non-Power 4 programs. Memphis won 29 games over the last three years, ranking among the nation’s top 15 in victories.
“It became clear during our conversations that Coach Silverfield shares our vision of making the College Football Playoffs and competing for a national championship,” Yurachek said. “His proven ability to win games over a sustained period separated him from the pack and makes him the right choice to lead our program.”
Silverfield’s Memphis offenses consistently ranked among the nation’s best, averaging more than 30 points per game in each of his six seasons. The 2025 Tigers finished No. 19 nationally in scoring at 34.6 points per game, marking the fourth straight year inside the top 25. Defensively, Memphis showed steady improvement, allowing just 22.5 points per game this season and ranking third in the American Conference in yards allowed.
The Tigers’ 2024 campaign was historic, producing the program’s first back-to-back 10-win seasons and an 11–2 record capped by a Frisco Bowl victory over West Virginia. Memphis finished ranked in both the AP and Coaches Polls for the first time since 2019. Silverfield earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year honors for the second time in 2023.
Silverfield’s tenure also featured standout player development, including quarterback Seth Henigan’s Freshman All-America season in 2021 and multiple all-conference selections. His first season in 2020 produced an 8–3 record and a .727 winning percentage, the best by a first-year Memphis head coach.
Before becoming head coach, Silverfield served in multiple roles at Memphis, including offensive line coach, run game coordinator, and assistant head coach. His 2018 offensive line was a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, and he was recognized nationally as one of the top recruiters in the American Athletic Conference.
Silverfield’s coaching career spans more than two decades across college, high school, and the NFL. He worked with the Minnesota Vikings from 2008–13, helping block for MVP Adrian Peterson’s 2,097-yard season in 2012. He also held roles at Toledo, Arizona State, UCF, and Jacksonville University, along with early coaching stints at Hampden-Sydney College and his alma mater, The Bolles School.
A Jacksonville native, Silverfield played at Bolles, winning two state championships. He and his wife, Katie, have twin daughters, Adeline and Celicia. Arkansas now turns to Silverfield to lead the Razorbacks into a new era of competitiveness in the SEC.
