(BCSNN | UPI) - The future of the Pac-12 looked bright, for about 5 minutes. Then Demond Williams Jr. threw four touchdown passes, three in the second quarter, and Washington’s defense intercepted five passes as the Huskies rolled past an over-matched and under-coached Boise State, 38-10, in the LA Bowl on Saturday night.
Denzel Boston opened the scoring with a 78-yard touchdown catch, and Williams later connected with Dezmen Roebuck, Raiden Vines-Bright, and Quentin Moore to cap a decisive offensive performance. Washington (9-4) scored 38 unanswered points after allowing a field goal on Boise State’s opening drive, securing its fourth win in the last five bowl appearances.
Jonah Coleman rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown in his final game for the Huskies, while Boston added six receptions for 125 yards in what may have been his last collegiate outing.
Coach Jedd Fisch’s squad had no opt-outs from its Big Ten roster, and the continuity showed in a dominant debut at the LA Bowl. The game, hosted at SoFi Stadium, may have been the final edition of the event, though officials have not confirmed reports of its discontinuation.
Boise State (9-5), the Mountain West champion, struggled offensively. Quarterback Maddux Madsen threw two interceptions before leaving with a leg injury, while backup Max Cutforth added three more picks, including two on consecutive plays. The Broncos fell to 0-3 in bowl games under coach Spencer Danielson despite three straight conference titles.
Williams finished with 214 passing yards, marking the second straight bowl game in which he threw four touchdowns. His sophomore season ended with another dynamic showing, highlighted by Boston’s 11th touchdown catch of the year and Vines-Bright’s first career score.
Defensively, Washington sealed the win with big plays. Leroy Bryant intercepted Cutforth in the end zone, and edge rusher Deshawn Lynch returned another pick 57 yards.
The Huskies played sharp despite limited preparation time, delighting the 23,269 fans in attendance and closing their season with a statement win. The Broncos fan, on the other hand, got another dose of reality - the future ain't so bright for Boise State or the Pac-12.
