With the most wins among Big 12 schools since 2022, the league's only victory in the College Football Playoff, and a renewed commitment that provides stability of leadership in the ever-changing landscape of college football, TCU and head football coach Sonny Dykes have agreed to a contract extension with the Horned Frogs.
"Competing for national and Big 12 championships requires the right leadership, and Sonny has proven he's that person," TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Buddie said. "His track record on the field, his standing in the community, and the decisions he's made to position this program to pursue those goals speak for themselves."
In his first four seasons, Dykes has led TCU to 36 victories, the most among all Big 12 schools, while posting consecutive nine-win seasons for just the second time in TCU's Big 12-era (2014-15). At TCU, his 36 wins in his first four seasons are surpassed by only Francis Schmidt (37, 1929-32) by the most ever in a coach's first four seasons.
"I am appreciative and thankful to Mike Buddie, Chancellor Daniel Pullin, and our administration for their belief and support of our program," Dykes said. "The opportunity to pursue a national championship, the College Football Playoff, and Big 12 championships exists right here in Fort Worth, and my family and I, as well as our entire staff, are excited to continue that pursuit as Horned Frogs."
Dykes is one of just six active head coaches to have coached in the CFP National Championship game after leading the Frogs there in 2022. Since 2022, TCU's eight wins over ranked opponents are also the most among all Big 12 schools.
TCU has had seven All-Americans, 57 All-Big 12 selections, six of the top seven crowds in program history, and 13 players selected in the NFL Draft during Dykes' tenure, including eight in 2023 to lead the Big 12 and schools in the state of Texas, place fourth nationally and set a program record since the NFL went to its current seven-round format in 1994.
Since 2017, TCU has posted four nine-win or better seasons (2017, 2022, 2024, 2025). In all four seasons, Dykes has either served on staff as an analyst or as head coach. Twice in Dykes' four seasons, the Frogs have finished in the Associated Press' final top 25.
