(BCSNN) — Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer received a two‑year contract extension after approval from the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees Compensation Committee, securing his leadership of the Crimson Tide through January 31, 2033.
DeBoer, who owns a 20–8 record in two seasons at Alabama, expressed gratitude for the university’s support and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the program’s championship standard.
“My family and I would like to thank the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Trant, President Mohler, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, our athletics administration and football staff, this community and the University for their continued support,” DeBoer said. “This program has a long history of success and an unmatched tradition… I cannot wait to keep coaching our guys and bring more championships to Alabama.”
Since arriving in Tuscaloosa, DeBoer has delivered immediate results. In 2025, he guided Alabama to an 11–4 season, an SEC Championship Game appearance, a College Football Playoff berth, and a road win over No. 8 Oklahoma — part of a stretch of five ranked victories, four of which came in consecutive weeks to set a new SEC record.
His first season in 2024 produced a 9–4 record, tying the program record for wins by a first‑year head coach and featuring ranked wins over Georgia, Missouri and LSU.
DeBoer’s résumé extends well beyond Alabama. Before arriving in Tuscaloosa, he led Washington to a 25–3 record, a Pac‑12 title, two bowl wins and a berth in the 2023 CFP National Championship Game. His overall career mark stands at 124–20, and his 20 wins over ranked opponents since 2021 rank second among active head coaches.
Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne praised DeBoer’s leadership and player development.
“We are pleased to extend Coach DeBoer and are proud to have him leading the Crimson Tide football program,” Byrne said. “He is an excellent coach and has done a commendable job developing our student‑athletes.”
The extension includes a salary of $12.5 million per year and a buyout that begins at $10 million through January 2027 before decreasing in subsequent years.
With the contract finalized, DeBoer enters his third season at Alabama with momentum, a top‑10 recruiting class and expectations that remain firmly in championship territory.
