(BCSNN) — Minnesota starting quarterback Drake Lindsey was arrested early Friday in his hometown of Fayetteville and charged with underage possession of alcohol and attempted use of a fraudulent identification document, according to a preliminary police report.
Police were called shortly after midnight to the YeeHawg bar, where staff reported a possible fake ID. Officers approached Lindsey, 20, who admitted he had consumed alcohol before arriving and that the identification he used was not legitimate. A copy of the fake ID was later found in his wallet, the report said.
Lindsey was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and signed a form acknowledging the charges. He was released about seven hours later after posting $470 bond. Court records show hearings scheduled for June 1 and June 29 in Fayetteville District Court.
A Minnesota athletics spokesperson said the program is “aware of the situation and will address it internally.”
Lindsey, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound sophomore, started throughout the 2025 season and set a school record for most wins by a freshman with eight. He completed 249 of 386 passes for 2,382 yards and 18 touchdowns with six interceptions. He went 4-for-5 for 89 yards in the Gophers’ spring game last month.
Minnesota opens the 2026 season on Sept. 3 at home against Eastern Illinois.
