IRVING, Texas – BYU and Oklahoma State had multiple players honored, with Colorado and Texas Tech also receiving accolades, in the second set of Monster Energy Big 12 Football weekly awards. The Cowboys received a majority of honors after defeating then-No. 6 Oregon, 39-31, on Saturday in Stillwater, and the Cougars took home two awards after beating Arizona 28-17 in the first Conference game of the season.
Bachmeier earned his first Offensive Player of the Week award after taking home freshman honors on seven occasions last season. He was 16 of 26 for 217 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in then-No. 15 BYU’s victory. Bachmeier also became just the fourth player in Big 12 history to begin a season with two straight games of at least three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, joining Baker Mayfield (2015), Patrick Mahomes (2016) and Mason Rudolph (2017).
With a career day in the Cowboys’ historic win over the Ducks, Mestemaker threw for 317 yards and two scores and ran for 109 yards and a touchdown. He was the first quarterback to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 against the Ducks in a decade. The Austin, Texas native also extended his FBS-leading streak of consecutive games with 200 yards passing to 17 in the victory.
Akana had two-and-a-half sacks as part of a four-tackle day for BYU’s defense that limited a potent Arizona offense to just 17 points. He helped close out the win by picking up one-and-a-half sacks of returning First Team All-Big 12 quarterback Noah Fifita on consecutive plays to end the game.
Standing out in OSU’s defensive showing versus Oregon, Wesloski led all players with nine tackles to go along with a half of a sack. The defensive captain helped lead a unit that held UO to 3.0 yards per carry on 30 carries, marking just the seventh time that a Lanning-coached Ducks team has been held to that average or worse. The OSU defense also did not allow a rush longer than 14 yards in the game.
Karoll was called on to punt seven times in Texas Tech’s 35-24 victory at Oregon State, consistently flipping the field to the tune of a 44.4 average. The Beavers were unable to return any of Karoll’s punts and started each of their ensuing drives inside their own 30-yard line. Four of those drives started inside the 20, including three in the first half when Oregon State was forced to start drives at the 9, 10 and 16-yard lines.
Keltner connected on a career-high total of four field goals in the Cowboys’ win over Oregon, while also converting on both three points. Three of his field goals came in the second half, including his final one just over three minutes remaining in the game that gave OSU an eight-point lead to secure the win.
Establishing or tying 10 school records while guiding the Colorado offense to 52 points in a win over Weber State, Lewis posted a 17-of-23 passing day of 366 yards with four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a rushing touchdown before exiting the blowout after the first dive of the third quarter. The redshirt freshman’s 265.0 efficiency rating set a new CU record with at least 20 attempts, and his four touchdown passes are the most ever thrown by a Colorado freshman.
The Oklahoma State offensive line paved the way for a pair of 100-yard rushers, averaging six yards a carry, in the victory over then-No. 6 Oregon as part of a performance of 554 total yards of offense without allowing a sack. It was just the second time in FBS history that a team has had a 300-yard passer and multiple 100-yard rushers in a game against an AP top-10 team.
Dominating in the trenches on both sides of the ball, Oklahoma State’s front four tallied four sacks, five quarterback hurries and held Oregon’s Dante Moore to a QBR of 22.4, which was the lowest in a start during his Oregon career. The unit also held Oregon to 3.0 yards per carry on 30 carries.
