BCSNN — And just like that, it's the end of the Dave Doeren era at NC State. Losing to Stanford wasn't the thing that got Doeren fired, but it was the "straw that broke the camel's back."

NC State made the announcement on Saturday that Doeren was out after 14 seasons at the helm of Wolfpack Football.

The firing comes less than a day after the Wolfpack dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in ACC play following a 31-28 loss on the road at Stanford on Friday, Oct. 23.

"I want to thank Coach Doeren for his service and contributions to NC State, and for always representing the university with pride," said NC State Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. "I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role. We wish Dave, Sara and his family the best in the future."

For now, the Wolfpack will turn to running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel to serve as the interim coach for the remainder of the NC State football season.
