BOISE, Idaho – Boise State wide receiver Rasean Jones picked up a pair of conference honors, earning Pac-12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week after his performance in the Broncos' 46-45 win over Texas State.
Jones caught nine passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Blue and Orange prevail in a Pac-12 After Dark thriller to remain unbeaten in league play. Jones is the first player in the league this season to earn both Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week.
A native of Baker City, Oregon, Jones became the 15th FBS player and third freshman to record a 100-yard, three-touchdown game this year. He grabbed his first touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half, scoring from 12 yards out. He added a 9-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, which trimmed Boise State's deficit to five, then gave the Broncos the lead with an 11-yard touchdown on the next drive. He tallied a 44-yard reception on the opening play of the team's game-winning touchdown drive, totaling four catches for 65 yards in the final frame.
Amongst FBS freshmen, Jones is ranked third in yards per game (79.1) and fourth in receiving yards (554) and receptions (38). He leads the Broncos in all three categories and is tied for the team lead with four receiving touchdowns. Of FBS freshmen that have 25 or more receptions, Jones is ranked fourth with 14.6 yards per reception. A product of Rocky Mountain HS in Meridian, Idaho, Jones is the third freshman in Boise State's FBS era to record a 100-yard receiving game and second to notch a three-touchdown receiving game.
Jones has three Pac-12 honors this season, putting Boise State's season total at five. Dylan Riley (Offensive) and Cam Bates (Special Teams) were honored after the Sept. 12 win over Memphis. He is the fifth player in Pac-12 history to win both awards in the same week, joining quarterbacks Jayden Daniels (Arizona State, 2019), Kedon Slovis (USC, 2019) and Jaxson Dart (USC, 2021), as well as running back Jadyn Ott (Cal, 2022).
Jones is the first Bronco to win Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week in the same week since Taylen Green, who was recognized by the Mountain West on Nov. 28, 2022. That was also the last time a Boise State freshman was recognized in consecutive weeks. Jones is the first player to win any conference weekly award in back-to-back weeks since Ashton Jeanty (Oct. 7-14, 2024) and the first wide receiver to win a weekly award since Eric McAlister (Oct. 30, 2023).
The No. 20/21 Broncos (7-1, 4-0 Pac-12) hit the road for a conference matchup with Colorado State. Boise State will meet the Rams in Fort Collins at 4 p.m. on Nov. 7. The game will air nationally on USA Sports.
