"You're not going to win every race you run. That doesn't mean you just stop running."
Hall of Fame (Drunk) Bob Huggins to Serve as Keynote Speaker for Toledo MBB was created by C. Austin Cox
Bob Huggins is still raking in some cash, even if drinking has repeatedly derailed his career. It really makes you wonder how good he could have been. Anyway, here's some news about a fundraiser at Toledo....
Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Huggins will serve as the keynote speaker for Toledo's annual Rocket Roundball Social on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the main floor in Savage Arena. University of Toledo Interim President Matt Schroeder is hosting the event and all proceeds will go directly to the Toledo Men's Basketball Program.
"I'm very excited to announce that Bob Huggins will be our speaker at our annual Rocket Roundball Social this fall," said Kowalczyk, who is one of just five active NCAA Division I head coaches to win four consecutive outright conference titles. "This event has sold out every year for the past decade, and the money we have raised from it has made a tremendous impact on our program. For the second consecutive year, we will have a Hall of Fame coach at our event. Coach Huggins is a coach's coach and one of the most liked and respected coaches in our profession. He will do an outstanding job entertaining our loyal supporters."
Huggins was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022 after serving as head coach at Walsh College (1980-83), Akron (1984-89), Cincinnati (1989-05), Kansas State (2006-07), and West Virginia (2007-23). He ranks third in men's college basketball history with 935 victories and is one of six coaches ever to win more than 900 games. Huggins led his teams to 26 NCAA Tournaments, nine Sweet Sixteen appearances, four trips to the Elite Eight, and two Final Four appearances.
The Rocket Roundball Social, which is an event that has grown into a Toledo Basketball tradition, offers individuals the opportunity to meet President Schroeder, Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk, his staff and players while enjoying food from some of Toledo's finest restaurants.
A live auction will be held during the evening. The items available for purchase include a "Roadtrip with the Rockets" to Toledo's game at Purdue on Dec. 29, 24 suite tickets for a Rocket home game, and more.
Corporate tables of 10 can be purchased for $1,500. A limited number of individual tickets are available for $200 each.
