Maryland men's soccer assistant coach Miles Vaughn has departed the program to accept a position with SMU women's soccer, the program announced Friday.

Vaughn has served on the Terps' staff since 2018, starting first as Director of Operations before being named an interim assistant coach in February 2021. He was officially promoted to a full time assistant coach in June 2021. The Terps advanced to five NCAA Tournaments in Vaughn's tenure, highlighted by the 2018 National Championship. Vaughn also helped the Terps win the 2022 Big Ten Regular Season Championship.

"I am forever grateful for everything that Miles has poured into our program," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "Outside of being a fantastic coach, Miles is one of the greatest people I've had the pleasure of working with in my career. He has served our players incredibly well since stepping foot on campus and he'll be dearly missed. I am very happy that this move allows Miles, his wife Vanessa and young daughter Aurora to be back closer to family in Texas. Everyone here at Maryland wishes them the best of luck moving forward and they will always be members of our Maryland Men's Soccer family."

"The last six years as a member of the Maryland Men's Soccer program have been a great honor," Vaughn said. "I want to thank Sasho Cirovski and all of the student-athletes and staff members that have been a part of my time here. While my family is excited to move back home, we will miss being a part of the University of Maryland community."

Since Vaughn's arrival at Maryland, the program has earned 26 All-Big Ten honors and produced three All-Americans. Prior to his tenure at Maryland, Vaughn worked with the Bethesda Soccer Club with former Maryland women's soccer head coach Shannon Cirovski.

A national search for Vaughn's replacement has begun.
