Highlighted by noteworthy marks in the hammer throw and a pair of first-place finishes at the UTSA Invitational, Texas State's Grady Leonard and Elisabet Runarsdottir were named Sun Belt Conference Field Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 19, the conference office announced.

The weekly honors from the Sun Belt are the first of the respective careers for Leonard and Runarsdottir. Leonard, a first-year grad transfer, competed in his second meet as a Bobcat last weekend while the freshman Runarsdottir competed in her first collegiate outdoor meet.

In the men's hammer throw on March 17, Leonard turned in the third-best mark in Texas State history with a toss of 64.26 meters/210-10. The throw is currently the best in the Sun Belt this season.

Later in the meet, Leonard finished first in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.96 meters/58-11.25, which is also currently the best mark in the conference this year.

After a few weeks of the outdoor season so far, Leonard is third in the NCAA West region in the shot put and seventh in the hammer.

Out of Iceland, Runarsdottir has followed up her point-scoring performance in the weight throw in the indoor season with a top-of-the-meet showing in the hammer throw. She threw 61.99 meters/203-4 at the UTSA Invitational to claim first place and post a freshman school record in the event. Overall, the throw was the 10th-best in school history.

Runarsdottir currently ranks first in the Sun Belt in the hammer throw as well as first in the region, third in the NCAA West region, and fifth nationally.

Texas State returns to action this Friday and Saturday with the first of back-to-back home meets. The Bobcats will host the Charles Austin Classic at the Texas State Track and Field Complex starting on Friday.
