About the Diamond Dogs
Louisiana Tech opened its ballpark in style this past weekend, outscoring Southern University 26-7 in a three-game sweep at the new J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. Senior centerfielder Parker Bates put on a show in his first game back at the Love Shack, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI in a 9-2 victory. Reliever Greg Martinez pitched three innings in relief of starter Jonathan Fincher to earn the first pitching victory at the new stadium.

LA Tech recorded a 5-1 victory in Saturday's contest, using 7.2 combined innings of scoreless baseball between starter Ryan Jennings and reliever Casey Ouellette to nail down the win. Jennings punched out seven Jaguars over five innings to earn the win, while Ouellette struck out five batters over the final 2.2 frames to record Tech's first save of the season.

A quick start in Sunday's series finale helped LA Tech jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Diamond Dogs then scored the game's final five runs to notch a 12-4 win for the weekend sweep. Outfielder Philip Matulia polished off a fantastic weekend at the plate with three hits, three runs scored, three RBI and a home run on Sunday.

Tuesday night's matchup between the Bulldogs and Ragin' Cajuns will feature a pitching duel between two former Sulphur High School products – Tech's Kyle Griffen and ULL's Connor Cooke. Both Griffen and Cooke are former Golden Tornadoes.

The Bulldogs will look to avenge their loss to the Ragin' Cajuns from this past Tuesday. LA Tech holds a 13-10 record against UL-Lafayette since 2001.

Scouting UL-Lafayette
Louisiana-Lafayette also recorded a weekend sweep of its own, knocking off Rice in three straight games at Russo Park. The Ragin' Cajuns limited the Owls to three runs in each game, winning 7-3, 5-3 and 6-3 on Friday-Sunday to record the sweep.

UL-Lafayette's Spencer Arrighetti nailed down a save for the Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday, striking out four batters and facing the minimum in a dominant relief appearance. Arrighetti held the Bulldogs scoreless in a start against LA Tech a week ago. The Cajuns' only loss from this past week was an 11-2 defeat at home to No. 11 LSU on Wednesday.

Freshman outfielder Carson Roccaforte leads the Ragin' Cajuns in hits (13), doubles (three), slugging percentage (.692) and OPS (1.240). ULL's pitching staff has combined to tally 86 strikeouts through eight games, averaging 10.75 punchouts per game as a staff. ULL's Connor Cooke has struck out nine and walked eight opposing hitters through 5.1 innings this season.
