The Washington State men's basketball team announced its participation in the 509 Classic, a 3-year contract with Eastern Washington to play at Spokane's Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Cougars and Eagles will face off Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the first of three annual meetings between the regional universities.

WSU and EWU have a series dating back over a century to 1907, when Washington State College faced Cheney Normal School. The Cougars hold a 59-13 advantage over the Eagles and have only lost twice in the last 10 games. Both WSU losses were at the hands of current Cougar Head Coach David Riley, when he led the EWU program.

"We're excited to participate in the 509 Classic and bring Cougar basketball to Spokane again," Coach Riley said. "We've said we want to play everyone in Washington, and this event gives the Cougs and the Eagles a chance to continue a historic series that dates back over 100 years."

Further details, including ticket information, media rights, and other community events planned in conjunction with the event, will be announced soon.
