(BCSNN) — The Mean Green are still undefeated, after senior Dylan Arnett hit a game-winning mid-range jumper with just seconds remaining, earning North Texas a 64–62 victory over Loyola Chicago on Sunday at NOW Arena..
Arnett, a Chicago native, scored 10 points in front of a hometown crowd and delivered the decisive shot just an hour from where he grew up. Fellow Chicago product Je’Shawn Stevenson led all scorers with a career-high-tying 23 points.
North Texas (3–0) led by 14 at halftime but saw its advantage erased in the second half as Loyola (1–2) mounted a 9–0 run and eventually took a five-point lead with six minutes remaining. The final stretch was a back-and-forth battle, culminating in Arnett’s clutch jumper to seal the win.
“I’m super proud of this group,” UNT head coach Daniyal Robinson said. “Loyola is a great team and fought back, but we stuck together, and Dylan came up big.”
This marks just the fifth time since 2000 that North Texas has started a season 3–0.
The Mean Green travel to Corvallis to face undefeated Oregon State on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network.
