(BCSNN) — The University of Miami men’s basketball team battled but couldn’t overcome No. 10 Florida, falling 82-68 Sunday night at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. Florida (3-1) led 39-29 at halftime after responding to Miami’s opening basket with a 9-0 run. The Hurricanes (3-1) briefly took an 18-17 lead midway through the first half, but Florida regained control and held Miami to 35.3% shooting before the break.

Miami surged early in the second half, trimming the lead to 44-41 with 16 minutes remaining behind six points from Tru Washington, a three-pointer from Dante Allen, and a bucket from Shelton Henderson. Florida responded with a run of its own, stretching the lead to as many as 19.

Malik Reneau led Miami with 22 points and 11 rebounds, recording his second consecutive double-double. Washington added 16 points — his fourth straight game in double figures — and Tre Donaldson chipped in 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

The Hurricanes return home to face Elon on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at the Watsco Center.
