(BCSNN) — No. 8 Michigan State built a 19‑point second‑half lead and held off a late Rutgers push to earn a 91–87 Senior Day win Thursday at the Breslin Center, extending its winning streak to five.

Jeremy Fears Jr. scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and finished with a game‑high eight assists. Coen Carr matched him with 21 points and added six rebounds as the Spartans dominated the glass, outrebounding Rutgers 38–21.

Jaxon Kohler added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Carson Cooper scored 14 points with six rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Cam Ward contributed nine points, a game‑high nine rebounds and three blocks.

Michigan State improved to 25–5 overall and 15–4 in the Big Ten. Rutgers fell to 12–18 and 5–14 in conference play.

The Spartans controlled the game early in the second half, stretching the margin to 19 before Rutgers mounted a late charge. Michigan State maintained its composure at the line and on the boards to close out its final home game of the regular season.
