LUBBOCK, Texas – Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn went for 25 points and Josiah Moseley provided 12 points and nine rebounds to help lead No. 19 Texas Tech to a 76-58 win over Bethune-Cookman on Thursday at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Red Raiders (2-0) have now won 48 straight non-conference home games and are 25-0 under head coach Grant McCasland in those games.

"I thought our defensive effort to start the game was awesome," McCasland said. "We were flying around and were competitive in the right ways. We didn't play well over the course of 40 minutes though. I thought we had great stretches and did a good job with 14 offensive rebounds and second chance points and our ability to turn them over was good, but we've got to play better."

After two games in the opening week of the season, the Red Raiders will now host No. 3 Illinois at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at United Supermarkets Arena. A Final Four team from last season, the Fighting Illini (2-0) are coming off a 112-70 win over Penn on Thursday night following a 120-45 season-opening win over FDU on Monday to begin their season.

On Thursday, in the second game of its season, Tech forced the Wildcats (0-2) into 18 turnovers after forcing 24 turnovers against Jackson State in the season opener. Against Bethune, the Red Raiders outscored their opponent by a 17-5 margin off turnovers and also scored 14 second chance points. Gibbs-Lawhorn, who was limited to five points against Jackson State but still surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone in the opener, bounced back with a strong offensive performance in the second game by shooting 7-for-14 from the field with three 3-pointers. It was his 20th game of his career scoring 20-or-more points and came with him also making 8-of-11 free throws. Cruz Davis added 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the game. He has now scored 15 points in both games this season and has nine steals through two games.

Moseley matched his career high with his nine rebounds and fell just one short of his first career double-double. He was 5-for-8 from the field and led the team with five offensive rebounds. Bassala Bagayoko added three offensive rebounds and finished with seven total rebounds while Darrion Williams had six points, five rebounds and three steals. Donovan Atwell made three 3-pointers, finishing with nine points and Damarion Dennis added five points.

The Red Raiders led by 13 at halftime but saw the Wildcats pull to within six points midway through the second half. The Red Raiders stayed steady though, pushing the lead to 60-48 on a 3-pointer from Williams and then up to a 15-point lead on an Atwell triple. The Red Raiders finished the game with nine 3-pointers, made 19 free throws and committed only 11 turnovers in the game.

Tech took a 37-24 lead into halftime with Gibbs-Lawhorn leading the team with 16 points and Davis scoring 10. The Red Raider owned a 16-4 scoring advantage in the paint and were up 8-0 in points off turnovers. Moseley led the reserves with six points and four rebounds in the first half while Williams had three points, two steals and two rebounds after 20 minutes. Tech was only 3-for-15 on 3-pointers in the first half but had turned the Wildcats over 12 times while limiting its turnovers to six. Gibbs-Lawhorn was 4-for-7 from the field, including going 2-for-4 on 3-pointers and also making 6-of-9 free throws. His first 3 of the game gave Tech its first double-figure lead at 18-8 and his second made it a 31-14 lead. Bagayoko and Davis had four rebounds each for the Red Raiders who had a 22-20 rebounding advantage. The Red Raider defense limited Bethune to only 27.3% shooting in the first half, including them making just 2-of-9 on 3-point attempts. Both teams struggled at the free-throw line with Tech going 10-for-19 and Bethune shooting 10-for-17 at the free-throw line.
