University of Hawai'i head football coach Timmy Chang added more members to his inaugural coaching staff, including safeties coach Josh Brown and director of player personnel & recruiting Nate Ilaoa.

Also joining the staff are Jimbo Davis (quality control) and Cade Socha (quality control), while Ryan Matviko (quality control), Jordan Pū'u-Robinson (graduate assistant), and P.J. Minaya (graduate assistant) will remain on staff.
 
The full-time coaching staff includes – Thomas Sheffield (associate head coach/special teams coordinator/tight ends), Ian Shoemaker (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Jacob Yoro (defensive coordinator/outside linebackers), Abe Elimimian (cornerbacks), Chris Brown (inside linebackers), Keiki Misipeka (running backs), Roman Sapolu (offensive line), Josh Brown (safeties), and Kody Cooke (strength & conditioning).
 
Josh Brown, Safeties
Boasts more than two decades of coaching experience...most recently worked as the secondary/safeties coach at UTEP…helped guide the Miners to their first bowl berth in seven years with a spot in the 2021 New Mexico Bowl…the Miners defense finished 25th nationally in pass defense efficiency as well as 12th in 3rd-down conversion defense…prior to UTEP, coached with Chang at Nevada during a 2019 season in which the Wolf Pack earned a spot in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl…served as the defensive coordinator at Cal Poly for eight seasons, where he coached with current Rainbow Warrior defensive coordinator Jacob Yoro…also had stints at Kansas, Sacramento State, Arizona State and Foothill College in California.
 
Chang on Brown: "Great coach, better person. Had the chance to work with Josh at Nevada. He understands his players and can develop his guys to be NFL-caliber talent. Was an important hire for us and this program."
 
Nate Ilaoa, Director of Player Personnel & Recruiting
Former Rainbow Warrior was teammates with Chang during his playing days at UH (2001-06)…offensive coordinator at Waipahu High School last season…also coached at Moanalua High School (2016 & '19), Punahou School (2018), and Kahuku High School (2017)…served as a skills trainer at Ikaika Athletics with owner and former teammate Mike Lafaele (2020-21)…assistant coach at the Polynesian All-Star Game every year since its inception and at the Hula Bowl (2020).

Cade Socha, Quality Control
Played collegiately at Keiser University (West Palm Beach, Fla.) from 2017-19…served as a student assistant during 2020 season coaching the receivers…interned at the University of San Diego in spring 2020 assisting with the defensive line…graduated from Keiser with a degree in sports management…spent fall 2021 at Nevada as a graduate assistant working with the wide receivers.
 
Jimbo Davis, Quality Control
Spent the past two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Nevada…also worked two years as a defensive quality control with the Wolf Pack…played collegiately at Nevada from 2013-17 as a defensive back and was a regular on special teams…earned Mountain West All-Academic honors as a senior.
