(BCSNN) — Clune Van Andel drilled a 38-yard field goal as time expired to lift Arkansas State to a 15–14 win over South Alabama on Tuesday night at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The victory marked the Red Wolves’ first road win of the season and improved their Sun Belt record to 2–1.
Arkansas State (3–4 overall) trailed 14–12 before Van Andel’s game-winner capped a 10-play, 53-yard drive that began with 5:01 remaining. The Red Wolves converted a fourth-and-2 near midfield and reached the South Alabama 21-yard line before setting up the kick.
Quarterback Jaylen Raynor completed 29 passes on 45 attempts and a touchdown, while Devin Spencer contributed 50 rushing yards on 8 touches. Arkansas State finished with 367 total yards and held the Jaguars to 4-of-14 on third down.
Defensively, the Red Wolves recorded two sacks and six tackles for loss, and got a huge night out of Kyle Taylor, who finished the evening with 14 total tackles.
A-State returns to action Oct. 25 with a home matchup against versus Georgia Southern on Saturday, Oct. 25. Kickoff from Centennial Bank Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
