BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama's Xavier Griffin and London Simmons earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors, the league office announced.

Griffin was honored as Co-Freshman of the Week and Simmons was recognized as Defensive Lineman of the Week.

The weekly accolades are the first in the careers of both players and are the fifth and sixth for the Crimson Tide this season.

Co-Freshman of the Week: Xavier Griffin

  • Came off the bench to post a team-high nine tackles in Starkville
  • Recorded solo tackles on six on his nine stops and also tallied a quarterback hurry
  • Helped the Tide to a season-high 5.0 sacks, registering one for himself (-5 yards)

Defensive Lineman of the Week: London Simmons

  • Forced and recovered a fumble on his sack of Kamario Taylor on State's first offensive possession
  • Recorded two tackles in the return to his home state, including a team-high 1.5 sacks (-12 yards)
  • Helped UA finish with a season-high 5.0 sacks by day's end
