BCSNN — WKU delivered its most complete performance of the season Thursday night, controlling Missouri State from start to finish in a 34–13 victory at Houchens‑Smith Stadium. The Hilltoppers leaned on a balanced offensive attack, a disciplined defensive effort, and timely explosive plays to secure their first Conference USA home win of the year.

WKU (2–4, 1–1 CUSA) scored first and never trailed, setting the tone with an 11‑play, 68‑yard opening drive capped by quarterback Brock Glenn’s 1‑yard touchdown run. Missouri State (1–4, 0–1) responded with a pair of field goals, but WKU’s offense found its rhythm late in the second quarter and never relinquished control.

Glenn delivered one of the best outings of his young Hilltopper career, accounting for 326 total yards — 231 passing and 95 rushing — and two touchdowns. His 42‑yard strike to Jonathan Stafford Jr. midway through the second quarter pushed WKU’s lead to 14–6 and highlighted a four‑play, 75‑yard burst that showcased the Hilltoppers’ explosiveness.

Running back Ajay Allen added a 3‑yard touchdown before halftime, sending WKU into the break ahead 21–6. Allen later sealed the win with a 39‑yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, finishing with 105 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. His performance marked WKU’s second 100‑yard rushing game of the season and continued his emergence as the team’s most reliable ground option.

Missouri State briefly cut the deficit to 21–13 early in the third quarter with a 36‑yard touchdown pass, but WKU’s defense tightened immediately. The Hilltoppers allowed no further touchdowns and repeatedly forced the Bears into long‑yardage situations.

Kicker Karl Campbell extended WKU’s lead with field goals of 34 and 43 yards, improving to 5‑for‑5 on the season and remaining perfect on PATs. His consistency helped the Hilltoppers maintain momentum and stretch the margin to 27–13 before Allen’s late touchdown closed out the scoring.

WKU finished with 464 yards of offense, including 233 rushing and 231 passing, marking the program’s first win with more rushing yards than passing yards since November 2023. Eight Hilltoppers recorded receptions, with Stafford Jr. leading the way with six catches for 72 yards and his first career touchdown. Stafford’s 36 receptions this season now place him in a tie for fourth on WKU’s freshman receiving list.

Defensively, WKU was anchored by safety Jaylen Lewis, who posted a career‑best 14 tackles, including 11 solo stops. The Hilltoppers recorded seven tackles for loss, led by Lewis and linebacker Jordan Donald, and forced a key first‑quarter interception from Tony Newsome Jr., his first as a Hilltopper.

WKU’s defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the night, limiting Missouri State’s rushing attack and generating consistent pressure. The Hilltoppers also played turnover‑free football for the second time this season, a key factor in their ability to sustain drives and protect their lead.

The win extended WKU’s dominance in the series, improving the Hilltoppers to 10–2 all‑time against Missouri State and marking their 10th straight victory over the Bears. WKU also improved to 2–0 at home this season and has now won 13 of its last 15 games at Houchens‑Smith Stadium.

Head coach Tyson Helton, now 59–40 at WKU, continues to climb the program’s all‑time wins list, trailing only legends Jimmy Feix and Jack Harbaugh.

“It was good to see us put it all together at home,” Helton said. “We came out fast, made explosive plays, and the defense did a great job. It was a really good team win.”

WKU now turns its attention to a critical road matchup as it looks to build on Thursday’s momentum.
