Rice garnered a second Conference USA Player of the Week award this season, this time coming from sophomore Quincy Olivari. The guard paced the Owl offense with 24.5 points per game in the team’s sweep of Southern Miss. Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Lofton, Jr., once again took home Freshman of the Week, his sixth on the year and third in as many weeks, as he averaged double figures in the Bulldogs' split series at North Texas. Awards are voted on by the league's men's basketball communications directors. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.

On the heels of a road loss at Memphis on Saturday, East Carolina jumps right back into action Monday afternoon at home against SMU.The Pirates got 23 points and nine rebounds from Jayden Gardner and 10 points from Brandon Suggs, but couldn't hold off Memphis in the game's final four minutes. The Pirates led by six midway through the second half before the Tigers tied the game with 3:47 to play and finished on a 13-5 run for a 66-59 victory.

The National Football League announced Saturday (Feb. 6) that former Michigan great Charles Woodson has been selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Woodson is the 11th Wolverine to be named to the Hall of Fame, which breaks a tie with Ohio State for the most inductees to receive professional football's greatest individual honor in the Big Ten and the third-most all-time.
